With experts predicting life may not return to “normal” until the latter part of 2021\, we continue to be faced with more uncertainty and change in the months ahead.  We have all been forced to adapt in some way or another to this new “normal”. New surroundings\, rules and regulations\, ways of communicating\, essentially a whole new way of life. Six months on\, how do you feel emotionally and physically? How well have you adapted? What challenges are you facing? Are you prepared\, personally and professionally\, for the next 6-12 months? SUMMARY:Attend Virtual Zoom Meeting - Jack Holder "Employee Benefits" Thurs. Sept 17\, 2020 6:00 - 7:30 pm
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to be holding our first Virtual Zoom Meeting and its Free! Date:Thursday\, September 17\, 2020Venue: Live Webinar (Zoom link will be sent to registrants)   Speaker: Jack Holder   Program: “Employee Benefits”   Time: 6:00 – 7:00 pm Speaker and Q&A     7:00 – 7:15 Announcements & Scholarship ticket drawings   We’re holding our first ever virtual meeting with our guest speaker Jack Holder via Zoom.  Jack will be talking about Employee Benefits options that companies can offer.     This will be informative to you if your company offers these benefits\, as it will allow you better insight into these programs.    For anyone as an employer that is thinking of offering additional benefits you will also want to attend to gain a better understanding of the different programs available.   Jack will be talking about benefits such as pet insurance\, telehealth\, legal protection\, voluntary enhanced benefits\, and micro loans to name a few.Jack Holder is a co-founder of Enhanced Benefits Insurance Solutions (EBIS for short). Jack built his business by working with health insurance brokers primarily with a leading voluntary insurance carrier. He held the p osition regional manager for 10 of the 14 years and achieved many of the company benchmarks including: state convention s\, national conventions\, and several awards for double digit growth. His passion is to find solutions that are a win/win for all parties involved.  His vision is to build sustainable strategies that introduce enhanced voluntary benefits with broker partners to employers and their employees. With this in mind EBIS was created to better provide the solutions his broker partners and business clients. He is from the beautiful state of Oregon and chose to move to California to seek new opportunities after graduating from Portland State University. He met his wife\, Jackie\, in San Diego and now has two daughters; Amirah and Sadie. In his free time he plays co-ed recreational soccer\, spends time in the desert with his family\, volunteering\, and loves almost everything outdoors.     TOPIC OUTLINE Increasing benefit packages at low are no cost to attract employees. What are some of the options out there that companies are implementing and talking about? Many companies today are looking for ways to stay competitive to attract multi-generational employees; cost\, knowledge and time all become obstacles. There are many kinds of benefits that can be offered to employees today such as pet insurance\, telehealth\, legal protection\, voluntary enhanced benefits\, and micro loans to name a few.  Utilizing voluntary benefits to reduce or mitigate costs:  We look at strategies that could help with high workers’ compensation industries mitigate some of the unwanted Monday Morning Claims.  78% of Americans today live paycheck to paycheck and with increasing deductibles for major medical workers’ comp claims are rising. There are also other ways for employers to save money and help improve benefit packages as well.  Employee engagement for benefits: We call this “Celebration of Benefits”. What technologies and strategies are being used to reach multigenerational employees? Email may work\, but what else is there? Let’s leverage technology to connect to everyone.     Earn 1 CPE credit for attending! Personnel/Human Resources – Non-Techinical       Scholarship Prizes   $25 Starbuck Gift Card – Shelly Waddell $25 Gift Card – Pebbles Dumon $25 Gift Card – AFWA Chapter #17   Pre-Purchase your tickets when registering!Zoom Meeting information will be sent a day prior to event along with any handouts. SUMMARY:eDiscovery for the Non-Legal Professional
DESCRIPTION:In today’s digital world\, almost everything leaves an electronic footprint.  This allows for attorneys in litigation to dig through more evidence than ever\, known as eDiscovery.  \n\n\n\nBecause of how rapidly technology develops\, non-legal professionals should be aware of the nuances of eDiscovery to help their clients.  An overview of eDiscovery will be presented wth a short scenario to illustrate how eDiscovery works in litigation. \n\n\n\n\nChristine Stansall began her legal career after graduating from UC San Diego and obtaining her paralegal certificate from University of San Diego’s ABA-approved program in 1995. In her 20 years a paralegal\, she went on to earn the Certified Paralegal and Advanced Certified Paralegal certifications in multiple areas of law from the National Association of Legal Assistants\, and the California Advanced Specialist in Discovery from the Commission for Certification of California Paralegals. \n\n\n\n\nMs. Stansall’s traditional paralegal career evolved into E-Discovery and litigation support when she found she enjoyed combining tech know-how with her legal training. In 2015\, she earned the title of ACEDS Fellow from the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists program through UC Irvine’s E-Discovery program\, then followed up with the CEDS credential in 2017. Currently\, she is the Litigation Support Analyst at Procopio\, Cory\, Hargreaves & Savitch where she assists the legal teams in every phase of litigation\, from legal holds\, collections\, early case assessments\, document review\, productions\, motions practice\, to trial presentations. Ms. Stansall is trained to use Relativity\, Eclipse\, CaseMap\, TextMap\, TimeMap\, Trial Director\, Excel\, Adobe Acrobat\, and PowerPoint. She advocates for using project management principles in E-Discovery processes for defensibility and proportionality in a matter. \n\n\n\nMs. Stansall is a member of the Association of Certified E-Discovery Specialists and the San Diego chapter of the Women in Ediscovery. She is on the advisory board for the UC San Diego Extension’s E-Discovery and Litigation Technology program. She regularly attends the monthly San Diego ESI Forum sessions and believes in always learning because litigation is always evolving. \n\n\n\n CPE information: \n\n\n\nField of StudyBusiness Law – TechnicalCredit1 CPEProg LevelBasicPrerequisiteNone\n\n\n\nAFWA is registered with the National Association of State Board of Accountancy (NASBA) as a sponsor of continuing professional education (CPE) on the National Registry of CPE Sponsors. How they protect first and foremost human life then property.   It is so amazing that these brave men and women put their lives at risk doing their job.  I can’t express how appreciative and grateful I am for these brave firefighters especiallyas I experienced the Cedar/Crest fires first hand as the fire camethrough my property.  Thankfully our home and our neighbor’shomes were spared. I look forward to seeing everyone next week!  Bring a friend!                      Sincerely\, Shelly Waddell\, Vice PresidentSan Diego AFWA Chapter #17vicepresident@afwasandiego.org 619-729-8074 (mobile)

SUMMARY:AFWA Dinner & Speaker - March 21\, 2019 Blair Baker "The Smart Phone Who Knew Too Much!"
DESCRIPTION:AFWA Dinner & Speaker – March 21\, 2019\nBlair Baker “The Smart Phone Who Knew Too Much! And Other Perils of Mobile Media.”\nJoin us at True Food Kitchen in Fashion Valley with guest speaker Blair Baker \nThere is a new “syndrome” out there. It is called “CyberSecurity Fatigue.” Maybe you have it. Symptoms include: a soft glazing over of the eyes and thoughts of creating drinking games whenever you hear terms like “BYOD\,” “Ransomware\,” “phishing attack\,” and “breach.” Severe cases include people sticking their fingers in their ears and crying “la-la-la” until that mean old security person\, or newscaster\, goes away\, or tuning out and tuning into your favorite social media on your smart phone…but isn’t it what we are talking about…and you can’t “opt-out” of CyberSecurity….\nWhat causes it? Is it serious? Is there a way for us mere mortals to understand what is real about our phones and what is hysteria? What do they want from my phone? I am not a Zuckerberg\, why would anyone really be out to get me? Is there anything I can do to protect myself\, my business\, my kids without spending money?\nFind all answers\, and perhaps a chuckle or two\, in this session. \nBlair Baker\, CIO 1903 Solutions \n\nA Digital Age Sherpa\, Blair Baker is the Chief Technology Evangelist / CIO at 1903 Solutions (and an Adjunct Professor at CSUSM) with focus on CyberSecurity Awareness\, Cross-Team Collaboration\, and Digital Transformation.
