AFWA Student Outreach – Thurs. Feb 15, 2018 “What’s Next?”

AFWA invites Accounting & Finance students, professionals, and members to participate in a special event designed to help you prepare for your future. Don’t miss our guest speakers presenting on Job Searching, Interviewing, and the Importance of Professional Certification within the accounting & finance fields. Speakers are industry experts in their field.

Julie Brown, President of SDI Staffing who will teach you how to conduct your job search efficiently and effectively with her “A 12-Step Marketing Plan for Your Job Search”

Julie Brown is the President of SDI Staffing (SDIS). She started SDI Staffing in 1995 and specializes in placing temporary and direct-hire employees throughout Southern California for the insurance, banking, and financial services industries.

She is a member of the American Staffing Association and California Staffing Professionals.

She has been recognized with numerous awards, “Employer of the Year” by the San Diego Workforce Partnership and the Career Sponsorship Award by the OPT Program at Grossmont College for her dedication to educating young people.

Bryan Hendricks is a Recruiting Manager for Robert Half Finance& Accounting in La Jolla. Bryan moved here from Phoenix 5 years ago, he has been supporting local businesses find, acquire, & retain top talent for Robert Half for about a year. Spending nearly 8 years in higher education, prior to starting his career in staffing, he managed recruitment teams throughout the west coast. Bryan is passionate about aligning young adults with their future career path, through education.

In his free time, Bryan loves to be active; hiking & biking during the summers, and snowboarding during the winters.

Andy Maffia

Andy Maffia, CPA & Jennifer Seifert, CPA, MBA with Aldrich CPA’s + Advisors LLP will present “Accounting Certifications” Getting your degree is the first step in your professional journey, but how do you set yourself apart from the pack? Andy & Jennifer will look into how certifications and designations can help hone your skills, develop expertise, and land that dream job/promotion you’ve been working for!

Andy joined Aldrich CPAs + Advisors LLP in 2002 and specializes in audits of nonprofit organizations, agreed-upon procedures, consulting work, and attest work for closely-held companies. Over his time in public accounting, Andy has served over 100 nonprofits at all levels as an associate through partner. Andy currently sits on the board of directors and serves on the executive, audit, and finance committees of a nonprofit organization. He also sits on the California Peer Review Committee. Andy routinely speaks throughout the west coast on a variety of topics related to nonprofits, auditing, governance, and oversight. He is actively involved with many local nonprofit organizations.

Jennifer Seifert
Jennifer Seifert, CPA, MBA Senior Associate Aldrich CPA’s + Advisors
Jennifer has been serving clients in the nonprofit and governmental industry since 2013. Over the years, she has worked closely with many nonprofit organizations of various size and complexity, including single audits under the Uniform Grant Guidance and organizations with program funding and reporting through the California Department of Education. She is instrumental in the firm’s overall recruiting and mentorship programs and provides training to team members on a regular basis.  Additionally, she is a member of the Board Fellows program at San Diego State University which has given her the opportunity to serve as a non-voting Board member of a local nonprofit organization.

We will be offering a free resume review service for all those who are attending. We will have some experts in the hiring field available to review your resume, provide feed back, and if you’re interest may help you to find a job. We will have some experts from Robert Half, SDI Staffing, Union Bank, and more.

UCSD Extension is donating a $500 voucher which may be used towards their courses in the Accounting or Finance Program
